The Textile Heat Revolution
Active winter athletes can now take a deep breath. The VAUDE Corvara Jacket elevates breathability in lightweight insulation jackets to new levels with the newly developed synthetic Polartec® Alpha® insulation. Worn as a second layer under a hardshell or on its own for fast-paced touring, this jacket will win over just about any demanding mountain athlete.
Not only do athletes need to breath more when going all out, so does the performance apparel they wear. Perspiration in the form of water vapour needs to move away from the body. In summer, moisture transport and evaporation are rarely a problem. In winter, however, thermal insulation is essential and micro-climate conditions under various layers of clothing a science onto itself. The US performance fabric specialist ushers in a new dimension in breathability for lightweight insulation jackets with the new Polartec® Alpha®.
In the new Corvara Jacket, VAUDE the mountain sports expert puts extremely effective Polartec® Alpha® insulation to work with a cutting-edge Body Mapping concept. The secret is the special grid structure of the knitted polyester fibers that creates more interspaces for enhanced air circulation, thereby also allowing for better moisture vapour permeability (see info box). A durable wind-resistant polyamide is used as the outer shell and lining fabric, while at the back a mesh lining is used as one tends to sweat more here. Stretch fleece inserts at the sides and under the arms provide greater mobility, enhance moisture transfer and create an athletic, close-fitting design. The Lycra seams at the hood and cuffs ensure a perfect fit. Two hand warmer pockets and a chest pocket are sure to offer enough room for anything that needs to be close at hand while on tour.
Polartec® Alpha®
Polartec® Alpha® makes it possible to create thin synthetic insulation pieces, so called puffy jackets, with never before attained levels of breathability and outstanding moisture transfer! Even when wet, Alpha® insulates better and dries quicker than all other insulation materials on the market to date. Both laboratory testing and Polartec athlete feedback confirms that water vapour transmission is much better than conventional insulation materials. (MVTR Test is twice as high, at 3349 g H2O/24 h). Due to the structure of the insulation, no fiber migration occurs making it possible to use highly breathable fabrics as outer shell material. Particularly lightweight and highly compressible, it provides warmth without weight and is very wind resistant at the same time. Due to the knitted construction, Alpha® is highly stretchy and therefore ideal for high motion alpine sports.
