Michele Pontrandolfo, a polar explorer of international standing, joins the team of Ferrino’s athletes, bringing in his extended experiences and record adventures to this Italian outdoor brand.
What makes Pontrandolfo so close to the Ferrino’s spirit is his philosophy about exploration as a real and simple need for continuous discovery. Starting from 1998 this athlete from Pordenone, Italy trained himself with the main goal to carry out Polar expeditions. At the present he has gained 14 world records in Greenland, Island, Arctic Ocean, magnetic North Pole, Patagonia, Hielo Continental, Ellesmere Island, Svalbard, geomagnetic North Pole.
The Italian explorer will leave at the beginning of February for a new solo expedition of approximately 1000 km in the direction of the geographic North Pole: “The traverse towards the geographic North Pole shall start from Cape Discovery, the location closest to the 83rd degree of north latitude in the Arctic Canada. I’ll walk for 45 days wearing my skies and carrying two sledges to be pulled behind me on the icepack corrugated by huge ice ridges which can reach some metres in height and cover wide areas. The powerful sea currents moving from Alaska to Asia cause the movement of the pack, the sea ice, and thus create not only these barriers but also innumerable channels which, in some cases, can be crossed only by swimming. The temperature of the water is between 3 to 5 degrees below zero, while the air temperature reaches -50° degrees C”.
For this adventure Michele will carry with him the Ferrino“POLARE” SLEEPING BAG, a product unique in its field, specifically designed to face the extreme conditions of this expedition: a sleeping bag conceived in joint cooperation between Pontrandolfo and the technical experts of Ferrino Company.
