Fjällräven Polar is a unique winter adventure that takes place far above the Arctic Circle. For four days, participants drive dog sleds through the wilderness, from Signaldalen on the Atlantic coast across the subarctic tundra to the forests near Jukkasjärvi – a distance totalling about 300 kilometres.
Fjällräven Polar gives “regular” people, with regular jobs and without any special outdoor experience, the chance to discover how fantastic outdoor life can be in the winter. Fjällräven’s experts are continuously by their sides helping them handle situations that they have no previous experience of.
The idea behind the event is to demonstrate that anyone can take part in an amazing adventure if they make the right preparations and equip themselves well. For Fjällräven it is also a way of testing clothing and equipment in the best possible conditions: the subarctic wilderness.

Something that started as a competition…
The first time Fjällräven Polar was held was in 1997. It started as a sled dog race, inspired by the legendary Iditarod Race in Alaska, and was held 10 years in a row until 2006.After 2006 the event was placed on ice.

… became an school for outdoor life
When Fjällräven Polar started up again in 2012 it took on a new format.The 20 participants still travelled the same course with dog sleds, but instead of competing with each other the focus was placed on sharing knowledge of outdoor life and inspiring more people to take part in outdoor activities in the winter. Films from the event are shown on Fjällräven’s website and in social media, and viewers fromall over the world can follow the participants’progress and share their experiences.

1100 applicants
The selection process for Fjällräven Polartakes place in November/December and applications are made by uploading a film via Fjällräven’s website.About half the participants are selected by country and votes, while the other half are selected by Fjällräven. About 1100 people applied for Fjällräven Polar 2016 and together they received hundreds of thousands
of votes! The successful applicants will meet up in Stockholm a few days before the start of the event to kit themselves out with clothing and equipment, before flying up to Tromsö in northern Norway and then transferring to Signaldalen.The adventure can begin.
