The anticipation for a superlative sports weekend in Brixen is rising. Because in exactly 50 days – on Saturday, 3 July – the bishop’s town will once again become the center of the international mountain running and trail scene with the Brixen Dolomiten Marathon, the Dolomites Ultra Trail, the LadiniaTrail and the Villnöss Dolomites Run. Interest in the renowned South Tyrolean running event is unbroken, as the various participant limits are likely to be exhausted soon.
The experienced organizing committee in Brixen noted with great satisfaction that the 2021 running season is slowly but surely getting underway. Track and road races have been held all over the country recently and the mountain running scene is also confident of a new start. This makes OC head Christian Jocher more than optimistic that after a year’s forced break, the Brixen Dolomiten Marathon 2021 can be held properly on Saturday, 3 July.
“We are beginning to see a bright light at the end of the long and dark Corona tunnel, which has presented us all with major challenges in a wide variety of areas. As of today, we are very confident that we will be able to run the Brixen Dolomiten Marathon and the three other distances as planned. The preparations have been in full swing for weeks, the whole team is involved and can hardly wait for the races to take place,” explains Christian Jocher.
Very good capacity on the marathon distance
The topic of safety naturally plays a major role in the 11th edition of the Brixen Dolomiten Marathon. The safety protocol has been worked out in broad outline by the organizers, but still needs a little fine-tuning in detail. “It is possible that there will be some relaxation in the coming weeks, which is why we would like to keep a low profile at the moment. However, the participants will be informed of all measures in good time so that nothing stands in the way of the safe running of our event,” adds Jocher.
In order to optimize the logistics of the four races and to avoid large crowds in the start/finish area and along the course, the experienced organizing committee has introduced participant limits. While the Brixen Dolomiten Marathon, with a capacity of 80 per cent for individual starters and 70 per cent for relay teams, is expected to be sold out shortly, there are still sufficient starting places for the Dolomites Ultra Trail (84 km/4728 hm), the LadiniaTrail (29 km/1852 hm) and the new Villnöss Dolomites Run (22.3 km/400 hm).
Nevertheless, all those interested are advised to register in good time at www.brixenmarathon.com for one of the four distances. In order to accommodate the athletes in this difficult time, the entry fee will no longer be increased. On the other hand, those who have already registered in the past months and now feel undecided have the opportunity to change their start ticket to the Brixen Dolomiten Marathon 2022 free of charge until 31 May.
