The anniversary edition of the Brixen Dolomites Marathon is about to become an event of records. Three and a half months before the starting signal on Saturday, 6 July, more than 500 athletes have already registered for the renowned running event in the cathedral city. With the Dolomites Ultra Trail (81 km/4728 m altitude difference) and the LadiniaTrail (21 km/1760 m altitude difference), the organizing committee offers two new distances that lead through the unique South Tyrolean mountain landscape in the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site.
With currently more than 500 entries – among them the former ultramarathon world champion Giorgio Calcaterra from Rome – the organizers of the Brixen Dolomites Marathon around OC president Claudio Zorzi and OC boss Christian Jocher are heading inexorably for a new participant record. The fact that mountain runners from at least 24 different nations will be coming to Brixen in summer is particularly pleasing – and the trend is rising.
“The Brixen Dolomites Marathon is increasingly attracting an international audience. This year we have athletes from Australia and Thailand at the start for the first time. This development makes us very happy on the one hand as organizers, but at the same time also from a touristic point of view. After all, our event is also about attracting new guests to our beautiful city. They will then be valuable multipliers in their home country, who will again inspire new holidaymakers to come to Brixen and ideally also to take part in one of our races,” says OC President Claudio Zorzi.
Dolomites Ultra Trail and Ladinia Trail celebrate premiere
The two new distances offered by the organisers for the anniversary will also be inspiring. The active organizers are convinced of this. “With the Dolomites Ultra Trail we want to address those runners for whom the marathon distance is now too short. Here, on a distance of 81 kilometres with almost 4800 metres of altitude difference, from wide forest, forest and meadow paths to high alpine climbs, everything is included. The monumental and colourful landscape of the Dolomites will fascinate the participants just as much as the challenge of having to master the route in teams of two,” Claudio Zorzi enthuses.
The LadiniaTrail is at least as impressive in terms of landscape, but with a track length of 21 kilometres it is much shorter and much less demanding in terms of running technique. “Here the start takes place in St. Martin in Thurn. The route then leads the athletes to the Gömmajoch, the Fornellahütte, the Tauberhütte and the Rossalm to the finish on the Plose“, is the crisp description of the route by OK boss Christian Jocher.
Price advantage for early registrants
The fact that the registration fees will be raised from 1 April speaks for a quick registration for the 10th Brixen Dolomites Marathon. In the next ten days, all those interested will still be on the marathon distance for 89 euros. The entry fee for the relay teams is 160 Euro (4×4) and 110 Euro (2×2) until 31 March. The entry fee for the LadiniaTrail (21 km) is 45 Euro, while the teams of two who tackle the Dolomites Ultra Trail (81 km) have to pay 180 Euro.
Registrations are possible on the official website of the Brixen Dolomites Marathon.
