The ZUGSPITZ TRAILRUN CHALLENGE once again shows how committed Zugspitz Arena Bavaria-Tyrol is to promoting Trail Running. This event which was created as part of the Interreg promotional program and relies on collaboration across borders is all about one thing: Trail Running! This varied event will be taking place for the second time and will range from the Kids Challenge and the City Sprint to the Half-Marathon and from the Novice Trail to the Mountain Sprint. The Trail Marathon to the top of Germany’s highest mountain, the Zugspitze, will be the highlight of this exciting weekend. Trail novices and runners seeking the ultimate challenge, young and old, serious racers or recreational runners will find that the ZUGSPITZ TRAILRUN CHALLENGE includes something for everyone.
From July 24 -26, 2015, trail runners galore will be heading out again to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Grainau, Ehrwald, and the Tirol Zugspitz Arena when the ZUGSPITZ TRAILRUN CHALLENGE enters its second round. The youngest racers will kick off this singular Trail Running Festival on Friday with the Kids Challenge. The first day will culminate with the City Sprint.
The marathon up to the summit of the Zugspitze, Germany’s highest peak, will be the highlight of the Trail Running weekend in every respect. This unmatched race starts in Ehrwald and boasts a length of 44.9 km (27.9 mi.) with a climb of 4291 m (14,078 ft.) and a descent of 2319 m (7608 ft.). It is a formidable challenge for any athlete and is sure to test any participant’s endurance. However, the breathtaking panorama at the finish will compensate for the blood, sweat, and tears.
Besides this exceptional challenge, we will also have the Mountain Sprint with a length of 15.8 km (9.8 mi.) and a climb of 2127 m (6978 ft.), as well as two shorter distances: the half-marathon of around 22 km (13.7 mi.) and the short course of 9.1 km (5.7 mi.) with an elevation change of 204 m (669 ft.).
“The ZUGSPITZ TRAILRUN CHALLENGE shows how diverse trail running is and how, as a result, it can be truly enjoyed by anyone,” raves Julia Conrad, Project Manager at the Plan B event company. “We are so happy to organize this exciting project again in 2015 and to have found the best-possible date on the last weekend in July!”
