The seventh edition of the Ehunmilak Ultratrail 2016 continues to break previous references. Although the registration period remains open until June 2, there are barely more than 100 entries still available, out of those 1,250 that were offered this year: 500 for “Ehunmilak” and “Goierriko2Haundiak” each, and 250 at the “MariMurumendi” marathon.
Ehunmilak 2016: FROM THE HEART OF GOIERRI, TO THE WORLD.
The seventh edition of this three mountain races that form Ehunmilak continues the impressive growth on the event´s projection and reputation both nationally and internationally, with several european media scheduled to cover it prominently.
For the first time in its history, all entries are just about to be sold out: As of today, there are just over 100 still available, out of the total 1.250. Hence, there are no more chances to run the “human” 42k and 88km races this year. However, the logical respect and enormous experience that are required by such an extreme test as the one hundred Basque miles, quite tougher than the UTMB at Chamonix, still causes ultrarunners to think twice before they feel ready to take them on.
The reasons mentioned for the success of these races by popular runners who come back every year highlight two points: On the one hand an organization fully focused upon the popular runner. From the physical roadbook sent home way ahead of the race to each runner, to the great food, massage, showers and other in-race support provided by over 1.500 volunteers. On the other hand, the unique Basque passion for endurance sports and their mountains bring out tens of thousands of fans that punctuate every step of the path, cheering with enthusiasm and deep knowledge of the undertaken challenge.
The horns and txalaparta (ancient basque Wood and Stone giant xylophone) guiding the runners throught the mist as they climb the Txindoki, or those cheers from the fans upon finally stepping on the streets of Beasaín, applauding each and every runner, from first to last, are among the memories that most impact the coming runners from around the world, striving to complete the great journey along the ancient mountain trails all over the Goierri, the Basque Highlands of Gipuzkoa.
On the 8th of July, once again as every year with the support of the Basque regional Government, the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, the Goierri Tourism Board (Goitur) and the outdoor brand Ternua as sponsors, this seventh edition, will be launched. The aim being that with it, more and more trail runners come to discover these trails, villages and its people, only to come back with a smile on each face as they recall thse moments running through the beautiful natural parks of Aizkorri and Aralar, hidden treasures of Gipuzkoa.
