On Saturday 16 June 2018 Val Gardena will play host to the ninth edition of the HERO Südtirol Dolomites, the world’s toughest mountain bike race. The 4018 bikers will race over two courses of 86 and 60 kilometres and will be privileged to enjoy the magnificent landscape of the Dolomites, a location with an ever-increasing number of tourists taking advantage of the summer attractions here. Yes, the mountain bike marathon is also the chance to enjoy the magnificent scenery of the Dolomites; an outstanding monument of nature and a UNESCO World Heritage.
HERO Trails: a thrilling and adrenaline pumping experience
There is no better way to enjoy the satisfaction and thrill of mountain biking and to try out part of the routes of the HERO Südtirol Dolomites than to take advantage of the HERO Trails. There are as many as 70 mountain bike excursions proposed and which afford the opportunity to experience the great beauty of the Dolomites – choosing any of the principal villages in the four valleys as a starting point and being accompanied by expert guides. Every delightful corner of these four splendid valleys around the Sella Group – Val Gardena, Alta Badia, Arabba and Val di Fassa are yours to explore. Take this chance to get to know parts of the world’s toughest mountain bike race routes. Rest assured, for the presence of lift systems will enable you to avoid any demanding uphill climb and you can approach the HERO Trails with calm and without pushing too hard at all. And then again, there is a choice of trail which will respond to your state of fitness and your desire. There are single trails, pleasure trails and e-bike trails, and you can choose a one, three or five day package. Kids on Wheels and Women’s Camp: two ways to enjoy HERO status
To best enjoy your mountain bike experience, it is fundamental to have a good mtb technique and the know-how to best approach those difficult uphill’s, steep downhills, sharp bends and challenging jumps and drops. Thanks to HERO Women’s Camp and Kids on Wheels there is a great solution for ladies and kids to learn more about the secrets of off-road biking.
The “KIDS on Wheels” programme aims to encourage youngsters of all ages to experience mtb, and to receive tips and advice from one of the local sporting greats – Peter Runggaldier is the ex-Italian national team downhill champion and has been technical director of the HERO Südtirol Dolomites since its very first edition. There is a choice of one or two day programmes for either 6 to 10 or 10 to 12 year olds, available from 18 June to 23 September 2018. Programme will go ahead with a minimum of 2 participants
The “HERO Women’s Camp” is designed with ladies in mind and aims to encourage those females wishing to get involved in mtb and to discover a new passion and to give ladies the chance to be able to accompany husbands or partners and share the mtb adventure together. The programmes provide for lessons structured at three levels – from absolute beginners to consideration of some of the more advanced technical skills. Thanks to the input of expert mtb guides it will be easy to learn the necessary skills and be confident of going on mtb excursions in the most enjoyable and safest of ways. Correct position on your bike and the right technique to face uphills will become second nature.
