IFSC President Marco Scolaris, Sport Director Jérôme Meyer and Administration Director Francesca Jengo participated at this year’s edition, joining over 100 international sports federations and association members for high-level talks and networking. The presence of the IFSC on the international stage continues to grow, and this year the IFSC was confirmed as an Associate Member of the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF). Also taking place were the institutional Annual meetings and General Assemblies of IWGA, ARISF, ASOIF, the classic workshop with WADA, as well as meetings with Tokyo 2020 and Buenos Aires 2018 Organising Committees and the IOC.
African Council activities
Attention turned to sport climbing in Africa, which may soon see new members, as well as the launching of the process for the creation of the African Continental Council, as per IFSC Statutes. Once ready, their elected representative will join the IFSC Executive Board.
European Council activities
The Executive Board also received the announcement from the European Council that their Extraordinary Plenary Assembly will take place in Innsbruck on May 27th.
Creating expectations
The Executive Board recognised the increasing number of challenges and duties the Olympic journey is calling for. It is also studying measures to improve its internal functioning and to encourage a deeper inclusion of the Athletes and other stakeholders in the growth of the sport.
To do so, in accordance with the IFSC Statutes new provisions approved at the 2017 Plenary Assembly in Quebec, ad hoc working groups will be created soon, comprising experts as well as representative of Athletes, National Federations, organisers and sponsors.

The IFSC is excited for the 2017 season. The sport climbing community has shown that they are more and more excited for IFSC events and athletes. The IFSC looks forward to seeing the engagement of this enthusiastic community this year. Tune-in for the upcoming IFSC Bouldering and Speed World Cups in Chongqing and Nanjing, China!
