We footwear nerds talk a lot about the importance of support, but do you ever wonder what actually makes a boot or shoe supportive? A huge factor is the midsole – the material that sits between the boot’s uppers and the outer sole. The degree of support from that material can make the difference between having a great outing or coming home with achy –and possibly injured-feet.
We use PU (polyurethane) for our midsoles because it:
- is very durable – it keeps its shape and support long after other materials like EVA have “pancaked”
- springs back to its shape with every step, even when it’s been compressed over many miles of walking
- is a significantly less toxic material to manufacture than EVA.
