Latest News! Course Modifications:
23km/42km: The descent from Planet (km 11 for the 42km race, and km 10 for the 23km race) to Montroc will no longer be on the road but on footpaths.
Vertical KM: the section at the Mollard traffic circle and the road-crossing at the Allee Recteur Payot have been taken out. Runners will go via the Maison de la Montagne and then access the gardens by taking the footbridge.
80km: The start direction is reversed. Runners will still start in front of the town hall at the Place du Triangle de l’Amitié, but go towards the rue Joseph Vallot. They will then take the rue Mummery street towards la Sapiniere to rejoin the Moussoux road until the promenade du Bois Prin before taking the Bel Lachat trail. This allows the peloton to stretch out before the ascent of Bel Lachat and more fluidity on the first part of the course.
Vertical KM Start Time Changed
In 2016 there is a new start time for the Mont-Blanc Vertical KM race. Participants will start from the Place du Triangle de l’Amitié on Friday June 24th beginning at 14:00 (rather than 16:00 in 2015) to climb the 1000m of vertical.
‘Over the Mountain’ for the 42km
The 2015 Salomon Skyrunner France Series becomes the Salomon Over the Mountain Running Challenge 2016. This year the 42km race will be part of the new Salomon Over the Mountain Running Challenge 2016 circuit. A series of French events that kick-off on the slopes of the Ventoux, before a stage in the Aveyron, the region of Haute Savoie with Chamonix Mont-Blanc, the Haute-Garonne, the Alpes de Haute Provence and the Hautes-Alpes. The first stage, Ergysport Trail du Ventoux, took place on March 20th with Caroline Chaverot and Nicolas Martin claiming victory on the 46km course. The second stage will be in Chamonix with the 42km race before continuing on to the Haute-Garonne for the Luchon Aneta Trail on July 2nd & 3rd.
“Over the Mountain” are beautiful mountain races! The high summits are the underlying link between these races and the 42km in Chamonix Mont-Blanc is right at home amongst them.
“Among the big new things this year, we are also going to try to meet service expectations such as car-pooling to the races, or ecological ideologies by putting in place charters with the organizers: eco-cups, biodegradable markings, temporary signage, ink bibs, limiting flyers…the goal is to enjoy oneself on the beautiful mountain courses with the organizers and the passionate volunteers with a common goal: that the trail runners leave with wonderful memories”, says Jean-Michel Faure Vincent, the circuit organizer.
In 2016 the race expo village is changing its name: Welcome to TRAIL CAMP!
At the end of June 7000 runners and more than 14,000 supporters are expected in Chamonix for the Mont-Blanc Marathon weekend. The expo that reunites all equipment providers and organizers opens its doors on the Place du Mont Blanc over June 23-26, 2016. Free for everyone, it allows runners to pick-up last minute purchases before their race, and also see what’s new this season!
The Mont-Blanc Marathon expo village is transformed into a TRAIL CAMP and proposes a totally new concept to test products! An exclusive course will be reserved for the test products during the 3-day TRAIL CAMP allowing the public to test the gear of their choice out on the terrain.
Each day will have a theme. A UCPA instructor will oversee 5 outings per day (10am, 11:30am, 13:50, 15:00 and 18:00). Each outing will last approximately 15 minutes.
An ambassador for each brand present at the expo can also join the group to guide and improve the tester’s experience. Testers can simply sign-up directly at the UCPA stand at their preferred time after picking up the product they wish to test.
