For Spring 2016 Patagonia now of fer its famous rainwear range Torrentshell with a 100% recycled nylon face fabric.
The nylon used in Patagonia technical shells is neither infinite nor sustainable. In addition, the extraction of the fossil fuels required to produce this material contributes to climate change. Fossil fuels like those that end up in these jackets are commodities, and despite Patagonia having a much deeper knowledge of its supply chain than most companies in the industry, it still has no way to know where those fossil fuels were extracted. To reduce its shells’ contribution to climate change, Patagonia’s best option at this point is to buy recycled-content fabrics and to continually find new ways to recycle its products at the end of their life and keep them out of traditional disposal methods.
M’s & W’s Torrentshell Jacket (£110 I Regular Fit)
The Torrentshell Jacket keeps you dry through any variety of bone-soaking wet, with H2No® Performance Standard protection that’s durable, lightweight and versatile. The 2.5-layer jacket uses a new 100% recycled nylon face fabric; has a waterproof/breathable barrier; a DWR (durable water repellent) finish; and stuffs into one of two zippered handwarmer pockets (with a carabiner clip-in loop). The 2-way-adjustable hood has a laminated visor, rolls down and stows away with a simplified cord-and-hook design; and the center zipper has a minimal-welt exterior and interior storm flaps.
