Doesn’t time fly! The Südtirol Drei Zinnen Alpine Run is celebrating a jubilee. The mountain run from Sesto to the Rifugio Antonio Locatelli on Saturday 16 September will take place for the 20th time. Nevertheless, the Organising Committee team around Gottfried Hofer is still full of passion and works with a high level of commitment and energy towards this special edition of the running event in the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage.
Gottfried Hofer’s aim is clear: It is to be a legendary, even more emotional edition of the Südtirol Drei Zinnen Alpine Run. “There will be many surprised and a fantastic jubilee celebration. Coordinated by Doris Büchel, wife of the former skier Marco Büchl, an illustrated book with background stories about the runners, the organisation and more will be published. Furthermore, our high quality racing pack will contain a new brilliant gadget”, promises the head of the organising team, who is again relying on his trusted and highly motivated team. Mr Hofer needs this team to be able to guarantee the usual smooth running of what is probably the most beautiful mountain run in the world.
The Südtirol Drei Zinnen Alpine Run takes place on Saturday 16 September on the original route. This route takes the maximum of 1000 participants over 17.5 kilometres with an elevation profile of 1350 metres on perfectly signed paths from Sesto through the stunning mountains of the Sesto Dolomites to the finish at the Rifugio Antonio Locatelli, just below the three impressive peaks that are known all over the world.
12 mountain runners were there from the beginning
The incredible panorama is likely to be one of the reasons that 12 mountain runners participated in every single one of the 19 editions of the Südtirol Drei Zinnen Alpine Run. Robert Amhof (Sesto), Roberto Crosato (Treviso), Gianpietro De Angeli (Mestre), Adriano Grion (Aquileia), Claudio Infusi (Rome), Markus Innerbichler (Casies), Nikolaus Oberle (Aschaffenburg), Konrad Ranzi (Laives), Georg Trenker (Valdaora), Giuseppe Ventura (Molina di Fiemme), Giuliano Barizza (Mirano) and Filippo Barizza (Mira) are also planning to tackle the 20th edition.
“We are very pleased that a dozen athletes have taken part in this run every single year. Many of our athletes are repeat participants – because they feel at home here, because they like the route, and because they have fallen in love with our race. This is a very welcome recognition of our work”, says Gottfried Hofer gratefully.
In previous years the Südtirol Drei Zinnen Alpine Run was sold out weeks before the start gun was fired. There are two good reasons for signing up early: Firstly, runners secure a guaranteed start place, and secondly, the start fee from 1 February to 19 May is 65 Euro. After that date the price increases by 10 Euro (until 18 August) and during the final month, should there be any spaces left, registration will cost 90 Euro. What are you waiting for?
