Despite the competitors’ very young age, we truly saw a display of world-class climbing today in Arco. Notably,
Japan brought home one gold and three silver medals in Bouldering. Slovenia, Italy and the USA were also well represented on the podiums.

Climbing stars on the rise
The women’s event shed light on the exciting future of female Bouldering, with rising stars Janja Garnbret (SLO) and Ashima Shiraishi (USA) dominating the Female Youth A and Female Youth B categories respectively. The two are well known for their incredible performances on rock and in competitions, where they have won medals in youth and senior events alike.

In the Female Junior category, there was a fierce battle between Stasa Gejo (SER), who took gold with two tops in three attemps, and Miho Nonaka (JPN), who scored two tops in nine attemps and secured silver. Jessica Pilz (AUT) placed third, continuing her astonishing series of good results this season.

New climbers show promise
In the Male Junior’s event, all eyes were on Jongwon Chon (KOR), who won the Bouldering World Cup overall ranking.
2015 in the senior category. He secured gold with a narrow margin, ahead of Nicolas Pelorson (FRA), who was only one bonus attempt behind, and Anze Peharc (SLO), who took bronze.

The Male Youth A competition was dominated by the Japanese athletes, with Yoshiyuki Ogata taking gold and Kai Harada securing silver. Buoyed by the intense cheers of his home crowd, Filip Schenk (ITA) won the Male Youth B competition with 3 tops, far ahead of the rest of the field in what proved to be a particularly tough Final round.
