Eurobike rides high in Frankfurt from July 13 to 17 with extensive congress program, Festival Days and Eurobike City Events
The world’s leading trade fair for bicycles taking place from July 13 to 17 will sport a new look in Frankfurt: Larger, more international and political, and with an expanded focus on the mobility of the future. The feedback from the industry and the exhibitors shows that the reorganization of the international industry get-together has come just at the right time: “The new concept is in place and Eurobike is already setting the course for the future further development at the premiere with top marks in all areas,” said Stefan Reisinger, managing director at fairnamic, and Wolfgang Marzin, CEO of Messe Frankfurt, at the press conference on Thursday.
In mid-July, the global mobility and expert community will meet again on a large scale: 1,500 exhibiting companies from all over the world will present themselves in halls and open-air grounds covering together more than 140,000 square meters. At the press launch, several key topics, highlights and trends in the bicycle and accessories sector were presented in advance.
Eurobike offers diversity from Congress to Festival Days: Stefan Reisinger
The topics of mobility and transport revolution are coming to the fore around the globe. At the new location, apart from having more space for bicycles, accessories and co., Eurobike also provides a bigger stage for political topics: “The new Eurobike in Frankfurt is becoming more urban, political and diverse, more extensive and larger than ever before,” says Stefan Reisinger. This is clearly demonstrated by the comprehensive conference program, which brings together various stakeholders from politics, industry, science and civil society on a live platform with congresses such as the Eurobike Convention on the first day of the trade fair, in order to talk about current topics and challenges in the industry. The Start-Up & Innovation Day and the Eurobike Innovators’ Prize for outstanding developments underline the innovative power of the bicycle industry. In addition to numerous possibilities to find out about the latest bike trends in the exhibition halls – and to test them extensively in the outdoor demo area –, the Festival Days event program provides for versatile entertainment with the FMB Slopestyle Contest Skyline Ride, the stunt show by Danny MacAskill, the Cargobike Eurocup and the Bembel Crit Race.
Ideal infrastructure for the new Eurobike in Frankfurt: Wolfgang Marzin
“Together with the team from Friedrichshafen, we will prove that the Frankfurt location offers the best conditions and ideal opportunities for Eurobike’s further development,” asserts Wolfgang Marzin, CEO of Messe Frankfurt. The urban infrastructure, which has been designed as internationally as possible, will enable more bicycle fans than ever before to visit the leading global trade fair. In July, in the exhibition grounds in halls 8, 9, 11 and 12 – the latter two having been newly built with two levels each – the bicycle will be celebrated in all its aspects. “The fairnamic joint venture, formed by the trade fair companies from Frankfurt and Friedrichshafen, has already become well established since its foundation last year,” adds Wolfgang Marzin.
Frankfurt becomes Eurobike City: Katja Richarz
However, the topic of two-wheelers attracts attention beyond the trade fair grounds as well: Cycling is also at the focus of activities planned in the city. “We want to introduce the topics of the trade fair into the city and the region and, in turn, offer a place within Eurobike for the many initiatives and associations as well as politics and administration that deal with cycling and the mobility revolution,” adds Eurobike project manager Katja Richarz. At Mainkai, which shall be closed for car traffic, there will be a colorful cycling culture program with attractions such as social rides, flea markets, workshops and film evenings, while the BMX scene will meet at Osthafen for show and action.
Bike trends and innovations: Gunnar Fehlau
With many world and European premieres, Eurobike is always demonstrating its innovative power. Gunnar Fehlau from pressedienst-fahrrad notes a shift: “Years ago, Eurobike was mostly characterized by innovations from the sports segments; in 2022, innovations for urban cycling, commuting and wheel infrastructure have caught up.” Exhibitors such as the urban bicycle shelter manufacturer WSM stand for this change. The company from the Bergisches Land will present the self-sufficient bicycle roofing “Greenplus” in Frankfurt.
For industry expert Fehlau, it is already clear: “With its first edition in Frankfurt, Eurobike has already reached its goal to cover the entire range of the bicycle.” Electrification of all kinds of wheels is progressing, and drives and components are further differentiated. According to Fehlau, a good example of this is the new “Urban” line from the Hessian manufacturer Riese & Müller, which combines sporty lightness with urban chic and motor support. Or the “GoTour3” from the e-bike pioneer Flyer. This compact cargo bike is primarily intended to replace a second family car.
No trend without a countertrend: Gravel bikes pit on universality and provide for driving fun on asphalt and forest paths. At the same time, the bike industry captures the “SUV” term and offers fully equipped pedelecs suitable for everyday applications, which offer a high baggage charge and can also be used off-road. New tires such as the “Marathon Efficiency” from Schwalbe ensure efficient performance also for SUVs in the bicycle universe. In addition to good traction and durability, they offer low rolling resistance as well. According to the manufacturer Busch & Müller, the new multi-stage electric bike stop light “Line-Brex” is intended to provide greater safety. With the “MyStopy,” children’s vehicle specialist Puky offers a radio-controlled brake assistant for children’s walking bikes.
The bicycle world shows its innovation power also in the digital sector: The “Airbell” at the stand of Messingschlager hides an Airtag transmitter from Apple in a bell, the driveline manufacturer Brose presents a free update of its app with many new features, and the FIT platform for digital system integration – initially the interplay of drive, battery and console – now also communicates with lighting systems, locks and tire pressure sensors.
MTB action at the Eurobike Skyline Ride: Erik Fedko
The international slopestyle elite at the Eurobike Skyline Ride provides for a serious adrenaline rush on the exhibition grounds. MTB professional Erik Fedko is participating in the 130 meter long dirt course of the spectacular FMB Gold Event: “I am thrilled that Eurobike will take place in Frankfurt this year. Organizing a Gold Event where you can win a wildcard for a Diamond Event is just great,” says the top athlete from Fröndenberg ahead of the event and even shows some tricks on the bike at the press conference as a prelude to the big show.
