“This conference is an opportunity to unite, a desire to work together for our high mountains, one of the last areas on the planet offering the possibility of other worldliness, where human presence is merely transient”.
The Sustainable Summits Conference was born in the USA in 2010 to raise awareness of the impacts of human behavior on the Denali glaciers in Alaska. In 2014, it moved to Colorado, then to Aoraki / Mount Cook National Park in New Zealand for 2016. In June 2018, Chamonix will host the 4th edition.
For three days, managers of high mountain areas, researchers, representatives of charity and civil organizations, innovative companies and mountaineers from around the world will unite in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc. They will share their experiences and propose solutions for the future of our high mountains, on three themes:
- What role do high mountain areas play in today’s societies?
- Climate change: the high mountains on the front line
- Human activities in the high mountains: impacts and solutions.
3 days / 3 themes – 35 speakers – 250 participants:
> to become the fundamental international meeting place to discuss the future of our high mountain regions
> to boost awareness of the vulnerability of the high mountains, a common good for humanity
> to define firm commitments to protect these exceptional areas.
